| Bike Rack Tips
Bike Racks are available for use on a first-come, first- served basis.
All 30, 35 and 40 foot buses have operating bike racks. PLEASE NOTE: Due to product delay, the 27 foot buses have no bike racks. As soon as the materials are received, bike racks will be installed on the short buses. MAT apologizes for the inconvenience.
MAT thanks you for your patience and remember….. Your bike rides for free as our wheels carry your wheels!
Do's and Don'ts
- Racks accommodate wheel size of 16 inches or larger.
- Only non-motorized, two-wheel bikes are allowed. The racks do not accommodate tandems, recumbent, mopeds, motorized bikes, trailers of any kind.
NOTE: If a trailer can be folded to the size of a child's stroller, it can be brought on board.
- Load and Unloading:
- For your safety, load and unload the bike from the front or curb side of the bus.
- Load and unload your bike as quickly as possible;
- If someone wants to remove their bike let them go first before you load yours.
- If the bus's bike rack is full, cyclist must wait for the next bus with an open rack slot to load your bike. Sorry…. bikes are not permitted inside the MAT fleet.
NOTE: MAT will install bike parking at transit centers, but will not provide bike racks at bus stops.
- You must be able to load and unload your bike without assistance.
- Bikes must not be locked to the bus's bike rack.
- LOST & FOUND: Any claims for a bike left on buses or on other MAT premises (i.e. shelters, transit centers, administrative building, parking lots, etc.) should be made to MAT at its adminstrative offices, 2222 Cuming Street, Omaha, Nebraska, 68102-4392, or 402.341.0800 (voice) or 402.342.0807 (TDD). Property will be held at MAT for 30 days and "unless rightfully claimed" with the thirty (30) days after being found, all non-perishable property found on buses or on other MAT premises will be deemed to be abandoned by the owner and will become the property of MAT, to be disposed of as MAT determines to be appropriate.
NOTE: MAT will not take a bus out-of-service for a cyclist to claim their bike or send a MAT employee to a bus to take the bike off a bus for a cyclist. Furthermore, MAT has the option to remove a bike left in a rack for a lengthy period of time during any period of transit service operation.
- MAT Responsibility: MAT is not responsible for damages incurred or caused to bikes while on the transit system, at the bus stop, during loading and unloading of the bike. Furthermore, MAT is not responsible for the cyclist while loading or unloading the bike to the rack, and, additionally, if the cyclist fails to secure the bike on the rack correctly. Nor is MAT responsible for bikes that are stolen, left on racks, damaged due to improper handling or claimed by someone other than the rightful owner.
- MAT drivers cannot leave the driver's seat to assist in the use of the bike racks. By carefully reviewing and following the simple instructions, you will find our racks easy to use.
Enjoy your ride on MAT!
